The trapeze artists of the world are the smallest of apes, the gibbon. They are among the fastest of forest animals. With arms twice as long as their body, gibbons swing hand over hand from branch to branch between the layers of the forest. They create their own super highways in the trees using their long curved fingers to securely grasp each limb. Their feet and legs help propel the gibbons to the next handhold. Other primates are also found in the tropics including lemurs, lorises, tamarins, orang-utans, macaques and gorillas.
